Quick thoughts
Tuesday, August 29th, 2006A couple of quick thoughts:
The next two years look like they’re going to be awesome.
My class is already pulling together, and mixing the people who made the early events with everyone else.
Yesterday focused a lot on theory and team building, with Meyer’s Briggs testing and explanations. The results were what you’d expect from an MBA class, heavily TJ. Interestingly, most of the girls where as well, given that only 1/3 of the female population is T. I think there is some selection pressure there, a certain type of person is more likely to decide to drop out of the workforce for two years, its a long term goal with a lot of short term instability and an uncertain payoff.
I got a shout out in the class presentation for referring to my Bobby McFerrin injury and for pointing out that Winchester, VA, is an exotic locale because it has both types of music, country and western. I also came up with the stereotype of F’s, feeling rather then thinking people as “Hippies”. I managed to slide it in perfectly after the call for stereotypes, which got a lot of attention: one of the other guys had been basically doing the same thing so it stood out in contrast.
You know it’s a really big school when the line for people who need to get parking in person is thirty minutes long and there’s only one lot left. I just needed a different sticker (soft-top cars don’t get window hangers) but it was still a long trip in a hot building, especially since we had to wear suits to orientation. Not a day for hot wool.
The Indian MBA candidates are shocked at the prevalence of cheese in American cooking. Smith responded with a wine and cheese party.
